Smaller than a dhol, simpler than a tabla, the dafli has always belonged to those who travel light and carry their music with them — the baul singers of Bengal, the qawwali performers of Sufi shrines, the street musicians of old bazaars who needed only a frame and a skin and the willingness to play. It is the instrument of people who understand that rhythm does not require a stage. That music, at its most essential, is just sound made on purpose.

This pendant carries that understanding in silver.

Round as a dafli frame, the pendant sits at the throat on a black thread — a choker that places the piece exactly where the voice lives. Its surface is worked into horizontal ridges, raised and deliberate, each ridge a reminder that what looks simple has been made so carefully. Three sides of the pendant are framed with ghungroo detailing — the bells that have always accompanied the dafli in performance, that have rung at Sufi shrines and classical stages and festival grounds for centuries, here pressed into silver and held close to the body.

And from the bottom and sides, three hangings fall: each one a cluster of ghungroos. The pendant does not make sound the way the dafli does, but it carries the memory of it.

The black thread is not incidental. Against the silver, it is stark and certain, the contrast of something that knows exactly what it is. A choker that sits at the base of the throat like a held note.
