The shankh — the conch shell — has been sacred in India since before recorded memory. Blown at temple rituals and weddings, carried as a symbol of the ocean's abundance, present at every auspicious beginning: the conch is the sound of something starting, the shape of something endlessly, organically spiral, a form that the sea arrived at over millions of years and that Indian craft has been rendering in gold and silver and stone ever since.

The earring takes its silhouette from the shankh — the particular curve and taper of the conch, recognisable once seen and impossible to unsee after. Across the stud and the body, floral motifs are embossed: petals pressed into the silver surface, giving the shankh-form an additional layer of craft that takes it from reference to artwork. Ghungroos hang from the base, their sound the contemporary echo of the conch's ancient one.
