This older composition is what gives the kada its weight, its particular warm tone, the depth of patina that a new piece cannot manufacture no matter how carefully it is distressed. It is silver that remembers how it was made.

Across its surface, traditional embossing: floral and geometric motifs worked in the raised relief that has characterised Rajasthani silver work for centuries, the two vocabularies — the organic and the architectural — in the close conversation that this craft has always maintained between them. The embossing gives the kada its texture, its variation in light and shadow, its reason for being examined slowly rather than merely glanced at.
